President and Owner
A seasoned executive with more than 35 years of experience in customer service, sales, marketing, consulting and management, Mike has earned a reputation for helping organizations meet objectives and improve performance and profit.
Prior to founding Sporting the Stars, he served as Vice President of ChoiceHealth Leasing, a Citibank private label program that helped doctors throughout the U.S. start, purchase or expand their practices.
In addition to having a keen understanding and love of business, he has a passion for sports. Growing up in the Charleston, SC area, Mike played sports competitively throughout his childhood and even today continues to play in a senior fast-pitch baseball league with the New Jersey Indians.
While visiting Philadelphia with his family when he was eight, he attended his first professional ballgame at Connie Mack Stadium. He became an avid and loyal Phillies fan, proudly wearing Phillies logos. He remembers listening to the radio with his dad one Father’s Day while Phillies pitcher Jim Bunning pitched a perfect game against the New York Mets, a moment and bond he will never forget. Little did he know that after graduating with a BS degree from the College of Charleston he would move to West Chester, PA where he and his wife raised two children as Philadelphia sports fans, and he spent years coaching his children’s sports teams.
With his passion for sports, people and giving back to the community, Mike knew Sporting the Stars would be the ideal business for him!
Regional Marketing Consultant
While serving as a board member for a local charity, Bob met Mike Whelan at an event benefiting the organization and knew immediately that he wanted to become a part of Mike’s team. Having the opportunity to work with charities while incorporating his knowledge of sports and customer service skills made his decision to join Sporting the Stars an easy one. He previously taught special education in Bucks County and has worked with numerous special needs individuals; in addition, he assisted in coaching softball and basketball. He continues to work with special needs individuals on a part-time basis, working primarily with children diagnosed with autism and Asperger’s syndrome. After teaching, Bob owned and operated a Tastykake sales route for 22 years, developing strong customer relationships, which he has maintained despite being out of the business for several years.
Bob grew up in Delaware County as a sports fanatic and participated in many, but had his best success in baseball, as a pitcher. Although the competitive baseball years are behind him, he enjoys playing golf and volleyball. Some of Bob’s fondest sports memories were attending two NBA All Star Games, several Phillies, Flyers and 76ers playoff games, and the 1980 NFC Championship victory by the Eagles over the Dallas Cowboys at Veterans Stadium. In addition, he is a partial season ticket holder to the Phillies. Bob is married with three daughters and resides in the Springfield, PA area.
Volunteer silent auction chairperson for a local non-profit, Janet came across Sporting the Stars through a connection on Facebook. After discussions with Mike Whelan, Janet knew that working with Mike and other non-profits was what she wanted and needed to do. Janet knows what it takes to get an auction together and the trials of trying to get items donated to an event. She has served as a board member to her non-profit for 3 years and silent auction chairperson for 4 years.
Janet grew up near Dayton, OH and graduated from Wright State University with a BS in Environmental Health Science. Her degree allowed her to work with a pharmaceutical packaging company and as a Safety Coordinator for a large self-performed general construction company. A move to Alabama with her husband opened Janet to the marketing field, where she was a marketing assistant for a large medical management company. A return to Ohio (and then a move to Pennsylvania), a dog and two children allowed Janet to concentrate on building her growing family. Janet currently lives in the Morgantown area and is actively involved in the community as well as her children’s school.
